Karmai Alexander was born in Buffalo New York. In 1992 she left home and enlisted into the military. In 1995 while stationed in Germany Karmai suffered a spinal C2 fracture caused by a car accident she recovered through physical therapy and in 1997 received an honorable discharge. Karmai Alexander then settled in Columbus GA and through marrage gave birth to her daughter Ivory and her son Landon III. During that time Karmai suffered a skin condition on her hands caused by stress and allergies that prevented her from using them to draw and paint. After having faith and much help from close friends her hands healed and In 2015 Karmai resigned from her middle management career to pursue dreams of being a full-time artist. She started a company called Basically Ivory llc, named after her daughter Ivory. Karmai took her art seriously and into the public eye in the summer of 2015. Amazingly Karmai turned what was once a self taught hobby into a full blown business that she loves.
Karmai considers herself a conceptual artist. She incorporates forms of performance art, pop art and sculpture. She creates a mixture of artistic designs with pencils, fabric, acrylics, spray paint, inks, watercolor, paper, photography, graphic design and plaster. Her art consist of aesthetics to grasp the attention of those that it evokes emotions from.
When I was a toddler my mother discovered I like to eat dirt. Yummy!!To keep me from eating it she help me focus my attention to crayons and paper, besides they tasted a little better then dirt, But Seriously I found something that allows me to use my wild imagination and the freedom of expression through art. Even though I no longer digest dirt, I still find time to play in it creating fabulous pieces of art.
